TikTok will pay Alabama at least 100 million dollars within 45 days, and as much as 300 million dollars if extra conditions are met, to settle claims that it designed the platform to be addictive for young people and misled the public about safety. The attorney general office announced the deal Friday. A trial had been set to start Monday in Montgomery state court, which would have been the first state trial of such claims.

TikTok will impose a two hour daily limit for underage users, let parents tighten that limit, ban cosmetic filters, restrict overnight use by children, and interrupt continuous use after 15 minutes and again at 60 and 90 minutes.
