Texas Governor Greg Abbott instructed all state agencies to end any money for local police to purchase or operate Flock cameras. The step arrived after the Texas Tribune published an inquiry into thirty million dollars given to departments for those systems.

A one-dollar insurance surcharge funded roughly two thousand cameras through the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Board and 15.9 million dollars more for twelve hundred cameras at the Department of Public Safety. Spokesman Andrew Mahaleris said most local camera money is federal and that Texas agencies now bar their funds from Flock use.

Legislators including Representative Mitch Little and Senator Ted Cruz have objected that the AI network records too much about people who have committed no crime, while Dallas police and state troopers say the cameras shortened case resolution from several days to a few hours for thefts, hit-and-runs, and smuggling.
