New York Democratic Representative Tom Suozzi told CBS The Takeout on Wednesday that Democratic Socialists of America candidates must stand behind their organization’s written agenda just as he has long stood behind Democratic Party positions.

He described that agenda as a set of poor ideas that include government control of major companies in food, medicine, and utilities, abolition of the Senate so only the House of Representatives remains, and having that chamber select both the Supreme Court and the president in parliamentary fashion. Suozzi also said the group rejects separated powers, seeks to cut police and Defense Department funding, wants prisons eliminated, and favors unrestricted national entry.

He noted some of those candidates might omit those items in public remarks even though they form the group’s official positions.
