The measure’s defenders framed it as compassionate “health care,” yet the very legislators who know their districts best refused to swallow that framing, labeling the policy “barbaric.” That rare public dissent matters because it shows even deep-blue states are not monolithic when the discussion moves from slogans to the actual mechanics of late-term procedures.
