Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona appeared Sunday on ABC This Week and said President Donald Trump launched the Iran military conflict without defined objectives, a schedule, or withdrawal plans, leaving him unable to disengage.

Kelly objected to talks led by the president’s son-in-law and a golf-and-real-estate acquaintance rather than specialists in Iranian affairs. He insisted the United States must prevent Iranian control of the Strait and block any nuclear weapon.

Kelly said the president likely wants a return to earlier conditions, when Iran was not advancing rapidly toward a nuclear weapon, shipping lanes stayed open, and American forces had not suffered more than twenty deaths plus eight hundred injuries. He described the episode as a blunder caused by the president’s leadership.
