Texas Senate candidate James Talarico has campaigned for higher taxes on the wealthy and large firms so they contribute more, inviting affluent people who accept extra taxes and reduced political influence to join him and thanking Mark Cuban. Talarico opposed the recent tax law that kept middle-class cuts plus exemptions for tips and overtime, calling it a donor giveaway; without passage, rates would have returned to 2017 levels.

House Speaker Mike Johnson later noted that Democrats voted against those tax measures, child savings accounts, rules keeping males out of female sports, and stronger border enforcement.
