Schiff: ‘Trump-Fawning’ Spencer Pratt Won’t Win in L.A.

Listen to Article

Schiff’s dismissal of Spencer Pratt as a “MAGA-aligned, Trump-fawning candidate” who can’t win in Los Angeles is the kind of coastal-elite shorthand that reveals more about the senator’s own bubble than about California voters. Pratt, a longtime firearms enthusiast and vocal defender of the Second Amendment, has used his platform to spotlight how Sacramento’s magazine bans, “assault weapon” restrictions, and permitting schemes disproportionately hit working-class and minority gun owners—the very people Schiff’s party claims to champion. By reducing Pratt to a caricature, Schiff avoids debating the actual policy failures: skyrocketing crime in Los Angeles after Prop 47, the collapse of proactive policing, and the steady erosion of shall-issue carry that once let law-abiding Angelenos protect themselves.

For the 2A community, the exchange is a useful reminder that national Democrats still treat gun owners as electoral untouchables rather than constituents with legitimate safety concerns. Pratt’s candidacy, whether or not it prevails in a deep-blue district, forces the conversation onto terrain Schiff would rather avoid—namely, that California’s gun-control regime has coincided with some of the nation’s highest rates of urban violence while doing little to disarm actual criminals. If nothing else, the senator’s reflexive labeling underscores why pro-Second Amendment voices keep showing up on ballots even in places long written off: they refuse to concede that self-defense is a coastal luxury instead of a constitutional right.
