On Tuesday Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin told Morning Joe that federal agents searching Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar’s home near Washington constituted an improper use of executive authority. Co-host Jonathan Lemire reported an early morning Department of Homeland Security raid that offered no public reason except a possible fraud inquiry, asked whether Congress had been informed, and cited Omar’s statement that she would keep doing her job.
Raskin said the search broke Justice Department rules against visible investigative work inside 60 days of an election and took place with 21 days remaining. He described the target as possible 1990s fraud by Omar’s father and said the timing before a congressional election remained unexplained. He compared it to probes of Adam Schiff, Jason Crow, Maggie Goodland, and Mark Kelly that later collapsed, arguing the pattern seeks to raise public doubt about the president’s political opponents.
