Pete Buttigieg stated on September 13 that he continues to favor adding seats to the Supreme Court. During an NBC Meet the Press interview with Kristen Welker, he recalled first raising the idea of growing the bench from nine to fifteen justices while running for president.
He said the position drew little support at the time but has gained traction as the court has taken on a partisan character. The former transportation secretary emphasized that any increase should serve to overhaul the court and lessen its partisanship rather than occur for its own sake. He offered no figure for how many justices he would add now.
