Nancy Pelosi told CNN on Wednesday she feels no worry that Democratic Socialists of America candidates might cost the party House or Senate seats in contested areas.

She described Democrats as an inclusive group after almost 50 years of involvement, including cooperation with California’s left despite differences. Candidates know their districts and run their own races, she said, and she has no criticism of those choices.

Pelosi recalled financing campaigns whose nominees rejected her repeatedly and instructing them solely to succeed. She said Democrats must prove they represent working families if some candidates claim they do not, and those candidates should state whatever is needed to win.
