Paxton: ‘The MAGA Agenda Is Dead Under John Cornyn’

Listen to Article

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton dropped a political bomb on Fox News this week, declaring that another six years for Senate Majority Leader John Cornyn would effectively bury the MAGA agenda. Speaking on “The Ingraham Angle,” the Trump-endorsed Senate challenger made clear that Cornyn’s brand of cautious, institutional Republicanism stands in direct opposition to the aggressive, results-oriented conservatism that propelled Donald Trump back to the White House. For Second Amendment supporters, this isn’t abstract party infighting; it’s a referendum on whether the Senate GOP will finally treat the right to keep and bear arms as a non-negotiable priority or continue watering it down in pursuit of Beltway respectability.

Cornyn’s record on firearms has long frustrated the pro-2A community. While he occasionally votes the right way, his fingerprints are all over efforts to expand gun control measures, from supporting red-flag-law frameworks to pushing bump stock bans and championing the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that opened the door to enhanced background checks and funding for state-level confiscation programs. Paxton, by contrast, has built a national reputation as one of the most consistent and fearless defenders of constitutional carry, campus carry, and the right of self-defense. His willingness to sue the Biden administration repeatedly on Second Amendment grounds signals exactly the kind of fighter the Senate desperately lacks.

The implications for gun owners could not be clearer. A Cornyn-led Senate risks slow-walking national reciprocity, federal preemption of unconstitutional state laws, and the appointment of rock-solid originalist judges who actually understand that “shall not be infringed” is not a suggestion. Paxton’s challenge represents a rare opportunity to replace comfortable Texas establishment politics with a voice that treats the Second Amendment as the cornerstone of American liberty rather than a political bargaining chip. The 2026 primary is shaping up to be a defining moment for whether the Republican Senate will advance the MAGA agenda or quietly euthanize it in the name of bipartisanship. Gun owners would be wise to take notice and get involved early.
