Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt appeared Friday on NewsNation Morning in America to discuss immigration enforcement. He described a case in his state of a person whose marijuana misdemeanor from two decades earlier had been cleared by Oklahoma yet who still lost valid work authorization and faced removal, even after the employer backed the worker.

Stitt said states and businesses should cooperate to identify people who belong in the country and add economic value while removing others, including criminals. He said federal immigration law must be enforced and called the present system flawed.

He proposed that an employer endorsement should decide work authorization, with governors rather than the federal government running that process.
