NPR senior political correspondent Tamara Keith told PBS NewsHour on Monday that Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed apologized for how he reacted to the Temple Israel attack because the general election looks tight and every constituency still matters. She said he also has more work ahead with Jewish voters.

Keith recalled that the Democratic primary was harshly fought and revolved in large part around Jewish identity, with AIPAC spending heavily on El-Sayed’s rival and El-Sayed criticizing AIPAC. Those disputes, she said, remain mixed into the contest as he tries to unify Democrats who split badly during the nomination fight.
