New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill told CNN OutFront on Wednesday that President Donald Trump holds military service in contempt.

Erin Burnett noted that Sherrill is a veteran who has backed 13 other veterans in this year’s races and asked whether the same praise Sherrill gives veterans in Congress also applies to the presidency.

Sherrill cited a medical exemption Trump received through a note from his father’s physician, said Trump looks down on those who enlist, and argued that choosing Pete Hegseth to lead the armed forces reflects that view because Hegseth faces sexual assault and harassment accusations, has a record of unsuccessful earlier jobs, and is now falling short in a post that affects national safety and people in uniform.
