A Milwaukee officer was wounded and a man he chased was killed Tuesday night after police gunfire during a foot chase.

Officers had seen a car linked to an earlier shooting report in the city and followed it until two people left the vehicle and ran. The 35-year-old officer, who has served more than three years with the Milwaukee Police Department, chased one of them and both men fired; the suspect died and the officer was hit. The Milwaukee Police Association said he is recovering at home. The other person who ran from the car remains at large.
