Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that her government will introduce a law limiting how many foreign students can be in one classroom and banning full face coverings in schools. She made the remarks Sunday at Fenix, the yearly gathering of Gioventù Nazionale, the youth organization of Brothers of Italy. Meloni told the students that Italian children must not become outnumbered in their classes.

The proposal includes a rule that parents of foreign pupils who have difficulty adapting must learn Italian. It would also forbid burqas and niqabs because school attendance means showing one’s face and gender equality cannot yield to tradition.
