New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Sunday on MS NOW Connect that Immigration and Customs Enforcement should halt every activity in the city and should not exist as an agency.

He described ICE personnel firing toward a vehicle in motion during daylight while dressed in construction clothing and carrying rifles, which he said frightened residents. He said other city police would not fire in that situation and that officers are expected to display clear identification, leaving bystanders uncertain about what they were witnessing.

Mamdani said he has conveyed to the president and the secretary that public safety ranks among the city’s highest goals, and that ICE conduct produces fear instead of security.
