Bill Maher used his Friday closing remarks on HBO Real Time to credit both parties for a drop in drug deaths. He said Democrats advanced easier access to an overdose-reversal medication and that this effort played a major role, while border closures, removals of gang members, and interrupted trafficking also helped.

Maher noted that some of the decline had nonpolitical causes, yet most of it came from separate Democratic and Republican actions that produced gains even without cooperation. He rejected Donald Trump’s claim of exclusive credit and that Joe Biden achieved nothing, pointing instead to Biden-era success in expanding the medication.

Maher added that the medication and enforcement both succeeded, producing an unintended joint result despite mutual hostility.
