New York Attorney General Letitia James told viewers of MS NOW On the Line on Wednesday that election authority belongs to the states rather than to the Postal Service or the president.

James said she and other Democratic attorneys general would keep opposing a federal rule she warned would disrupt North Carolina. Mail ballots for military personnel and other Americans are scheduled to go out in fewer than 11 days. She argued White House officials backed the rule because they lack faith in their own record and therefore mean to take the contest by improper means, describing the move as an effort to curb voting and vowing to pursue the fight through the Supreme Court.

She stressed that the Constitution gives states the power and duty to run elections, not the president or the postal system.
