Kiros: Historical Failures of Socialism Paired With Communism Not ‘Full Story’, U.S. Sabotages

Listen to Article

When Democratic House candidate Melat Kiros tells PBS that the “historical record” of socialism and communism is incomplete without blaming U.S. sabotage, she is simply recycling the oldest dodge in the Marxist playbook: never let the body count indict the ideology. Every time the death toll climbs—Ukraine’s Holodomor, Mao’s Great Leap, Cambodia’s killing fields—the same excuse surfaces: “It wasn’t real socialism” or “Washington ruined it.” That rhetorical escape hatch matters to gun owners because the same voices who whitewash those failures are the ones now promising “common-sense” gun laws that always seem to disarm law-abiding citizens first while criminals and the state remain armed.

The 2A community has watched this pattern play out in real time. Regimes that centralized economic power also centralized the means of force; registration lists became confiscation lists, and “never again” became “hand them over.” When a candidate refuses to confront that ledger, she signals that the Bill of Rights is optional once the “correct” people hold power. Gun owners therefore have every reason to treat Kiros’s historical revisionism as a warning shot: if the ideology that produced tyranny abroad is still looking for alibis, it will hardly hesitate to curtail the one constitutional barrier that has so far kept American socialism from graduating to full-blown authoritarianism.
