Sen. Mark Kelly’s latest broadside against President Trump lands with the same recycled outrage we’ve heard since 2016, yet it conveniently ignores the very real policy record that matters most to gun owners. While Kelly paints every Trump-era decision as unprecedented corruption, the facts show an administration that delivered on long-stalled Second Amendment priorities: confirming three originalist justices who helped overturn *New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen*, pushing ATF nominees who slowed the pistol-brace and “ghost gun” rulemakings, and signing the largest deregulation of suppressor ownership in decades through the Hearing Protection Act’s groundwork. Those moves weren’t backroom favors; they were public, Senate-confirmed, and litigated in open court—hardly the hallmarks of shadowy corruption.
For the 2A community, the real risk isn’t hypothetical grift but the policy whiplash a Kelly-backed administration would bring. Arizona’s junior senator has earned a zero from the NRA and an “F” from Gun Owners of America; his support for universal background checks, red-flag laws, and magazine restrictions would functionally reverse the gains of the last eight years. If “unprecedented corruption” is the new shorthand for confirming judges who read the plain text of the Second Amendment, then gun owners should welcome four more years of it—because the alternative is a regulatory regime that treats every honest citizen like a suspect and every magazine like a crime scene.
