Keisha Lance Bottoms ‘Absolutely Loves’ Idea of Added Fee for Homebuyers

Listen to Article

Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms, a candidate for Georgia governor, backed adding a buyer fee on home purchases during a May 12 campaign event in Macon, according to audio obtained by Breitbart News.

Responding to an environmental question about land and data centers, she pointed to Martha’s Vineyard, where since the 1980s purchasers have paid two percent of the sale price into a conservation fund before they can receive title, and stated the system could be used elsewhere.

Georgia median home prices have increased 101.4 percent in ten years. As Atlanta mayor she pledged more than $1 billion toward affordable housing, which Georgia State University urban studies professor Dan Immergluck called lacking specificity, and Housing Justice League director Alison Johnson in 2020 said city projects displaced Black residents, gentrified the city, and left working-class people in neglected housing. Bottoms faces Republican businessman Rick Jackson in November to succeed outgoing Governor Brian Kemp.
