Colin Kaepernick said Monday on ABC’s The View that NFL owners shut him out of the league after his kneeling protest for political reasons.

He departed the 49ers roughly six months after the protests began and no other team signed him. He sued the NFL claiming owners had worked together to exclude him; they denied it and the case ended in a private settlement.

Kaepernick called the owners’ reaction politically revealing and noted they have given millions to Donald Trump. He also pointed to protest support and resulting NFL boycotts, plus the fact that roughly 70 percent of players are Black, arguing that a unified player walkout for one weekend could cancel games until the league responded.
