Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito told Fox News Sunday he worries that organized campaigns seek to pressure the justices into altering how they decide cases.
Host Shannon Bream noted the president’s recent comments about some of Alito’s colleagues and played remarks from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, then asked whether statements by public officials affect the Court’s work.
Alito said he sets those remarks aside and trusts his colleagues do likewise. He voiced unease over growing criticism from prominent figures aimed at the Court and its members, along with possible lasting harm to the institution’s public standing. He also said he is uneasy about the Court’s path forward, describing it as essential to the constitutional order and to Americans’ liberties even though it has made errors in the past.
