Texas Democrat James Talarico has a documented history of pressing for legal action against Donald Trump, including a 2022 state convention speech that urged President Biden to prosecute him while also seeking other federal steps such as land leases for abortion clinics and removal of justices. In 2024 he appeared on MSNBC to catalog personal and legal accusations against Trump and said his faith led him to back Kamala Harris and Tim Walz; that July he also portrayed Trump as a pawn of religious hardliners.

He later highlighted Joaquin Castro’s part in Trump’s prior impeachment at joint events with Castro and Beto O’Rourke, repeating similar fighting-spirit remarks at a San Antonio rally on June 27, 2025, and an Austin redistricting protest on July 25.

Several congressional Democrats have since said another impeachment drive could follow if their party recaptures the House, while Republican leaders forecast an immediate attempt. Trump was impeached twice in his first term and acquitted by the Senate each time.
