While New Jersey’s ongoing audit of thousands of noncitizens who were mistakenly registered to vote shows the real-world consequences of lax verification, Turek’s absence lets him dodge accountability without having to defend the indefensible. The same lawmakers who insist on universal background checks and red-flag laws suddenly lose interest in confirming that the people pulling the trigger on public policy are, in fact, American citizens.

For the 2A community, the stakes are straightforward: every election that includes noncitizen ballots dilutes the voice of law-abiding gun owners who rely on the Second Amendment to protect their families and communities. When citizenship requirements are treated as optional, the margin in close races can shift toward candidates who favor magazine bans, “assault-weapon” restrictions, and registration schemes.
