Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird and Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to dismiss California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s antitrust suit, joined by 11 other states, seeking to stop Paramount’s combination with Warner Bros. Discovery.

The Republican officials say a dozen states have blocked a 110 billion dollar deal that 38 others, the United States, and regulators worldwide declined to challenge, and that Congress gives the Court exclusive power over disputes among states. They contend the case harms tens of thousands of company workers, hundreds of millions of viewers, and their own economies after the Justice Department and their offices cleared the transaction, and that it conflicts with federal antitrust decisions.

The Directors Guild of America and IATSE have urged Bonta to settle, citing harm to members and the industry from further delay even as they note such combinations historically offer workers few gains.
