Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, a Democrat, delivered a video address Wednesday to Republicans gathered for their midterm convention in Dallas. He identified himself as a Democrat with practical views who supports the United States and opposes socialist extremes along with hostility toward the country.

He then presented fellow Pennsylvania senator Dave McCormick, a Republican, as an effective lawmaker who will advocate for the state, noting a nearby steel mill as an example of cooperation with President Trump to protect that industry. Their personal ties formed after the 2024 Senate race, in which Fetterman backed Democrat Bob Casey and called McCormick a Connecticut outsider; once McCormick won, the two and their wives dined in Pittsburgh to discuss joint work for Pennsylvania, and Fetterman later said he would not campaign against him.

Fetterman has stated he will stay a Democrat, citing his support for abortion rights, gay and transgender communities, and federal unions as incompatible with Republicans, even as he parts with Democrats on Israel and would share frustration with figures such as Bernie Sanders.
