House Intel. Chair: Need Better Communication Among Intel. Agencies and With State, Local, Private Sector

Listen to Article

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford told NewsNation host Elizabeth Vargas on Wednesday that intelligence agencies communicate better than they did before the September 11 attacks but still fall short. He said the Director of National Intelligence, created after those attacks, is responsible for that coordination yet full sharing of information is still blocked in places.

Crawford argued the intelligence community should work together the way the armed forces do because one agency cannot cover the entire mission. He added that officials must also contact state, local and tribal agencies along with the private sector because those groups are exposed, including to assaults on vital systems and digital networks.

Threats have shifted over the past 25 years, he said, so the community’s approach must change as well rather than treat earlier reforms as complete.
