House Intel. Chair: ‘Kind of Took Our Eye Off the Ball’ with Counterintel. Threats

Listen to Article

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford, an Arkansas Republican, told NewsNation on Wednesday that heavy U.S. concentration on the global war on terror left other counterintelligence dangers underaddressed. He identified China, Iran, Russia, Cuba, and certain nonstate groups as sources of those dangers.

Crawford said the original 9/11 Commission recommendations had been put into practice effectively and that no major attack had occurred in the years since. He noted that conditions have shifted over the past 25 years and that Congress now aims to stop threats to the United States before they materialize, including counterintelligence risks from those countries and nonstate actors.
