House Democrats marked Indigenous Peoples Day in place of Columbus Day. Their account posted Monday that tribal nations and indigenous communities sit at the heart of the American past and still influence the country.
Online replies argued Democrats back anything seen as opposed to America or the West, and one user insisted the date is still Columbus Day. In 2021 Joe Biden issued a proclamation treating the shared date as Indigenous Peoples Day and addressed earlier federal policies toward native people along with later support for tribes.
Ayanna Pressley and Ed Markey of Massachusetts posted about native contributions in their state and the country plus remaining efforts on justice, sovereignty, land, water, and rights.
