House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told an MS NOW program Thursday that Donald Trump’s five thousand dollar dividend idea is unserious. He tied the suggestion to political anxiety after a Fox News host raised a related question.

Jeffries said Republicans have held the House, Senate and White House for twenty months yet have done nothing to ease daily burdens for typical citizens. He listed a major enacted package, health coverage losses for millions, and unprecedented food aid reductions that affect children, older adults and veterans, all to finance tax cuts for wealthy backers.

He added that Trump would act only after November voting and only if his party keeps Congress, so observers would not expect the pledge to be kept.
