Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana told a Fox News program Friday that too little oil now moves through the Strait of Hormuz and that neither he nor anyone else has a solution, so the issue rests with Iran.

He urged keeping sanctions and a blockade in place. Crude traded near 88 dollars a barrel, and he observed that much of the world’s non-Iranian oil still transits even though exact volumes stay unknown. He rejected talks with Iranian leaders because they cannot be trusted and said American operations had already damaged Iran’s military and economy so severely that rebuilding would take two decades.

Kennedy noted a possible later withdrawal that would force oil-dependent countries to act, without backing that step, and added that he would consider arming the Kurds.
