Republican Representative Tony Wied of Wisconsin said Thursday on NewsNation that importing beef to lower prices is not the correct approach.

He called for labels that identify beef origin so consumers know it comes from the United States. Wied supported the PRIME Act to let smaller farmers use nearby processors without heavy regulations and sell meat to local buyers in their state.

He noted the cattle herd is very small, stated the president aims to cut costs for people, expressed belief in ranchers, and said the herd will continue to increase.
