Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sued Netflix this week, alleging the company tracked data on children and sold it to advertisers.

He said Netflix told the public it would stay without ads, avoid gathering user information, and keep child accounts protective, yet it collected consumer records for years and prepared systems used when ads began in November 2022. Uthmeier argued that mothers and fathers, not streaming firms, should manage how children are raised and keep their information private.

Netflix replied that it respects member privacy, obeys data protection rules in every market, maintains special protections for young viewers, and will contest the filing in court as unfounded.
