Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Democrats who seek to dissolve the agency fail to grasp events from a quarter century earlier and the reasons it exists. He spoke with Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle about border security, public safety, and American sovereignty after Boyle raised those abolition calls, including from Representative Delia Ramirez of Illinois on the House Homeland Security Committee.

Mullin listed Coast Guard work on coasts and waterways, Customs and Border Protection handling of international flights and frontier control, Secret Service coverage of events plus visiting leaders and the president, Homeland Security Investigations support at gatherings, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency efforts against unending digital threats, and Transportation Security Administration screening that keeps aviation from remaining unprotected.

He said homeland protection should not divide anyone, that the department fields 80,000 sworn officers for enforcement while the FBI concentrates on investigations, and that critics therefore oppose law enforcement. Mullin added that manufacturing disorder is how a republic becomes a socialist or communist system.
