Exclusive: Michigan Democrat Candidate William Lawrence Called For ‘Reconstructing’ America with ‘Racial, Economic Justice’

Listen to Article

Michigan Democrat congressional candidate William Lawrence isn’t just another progressive voice—he’s a co-founder of the Soros-backed Sunrise Movement, an outfit that openly frames its mission as “fighting fascism to win a Green New Deal.” That same candidate now says America must be “reconstructed” through racial and economic justice, a phrase that echoes the post-Civil War era when federal power was used to remake entire states. For Second Amendment supporters, the language is a flashing red light: any plan to “reconstruct” the country inevitably collides with the constitutional architecture that protects individual rights, including the right to keep and bear arms.

Lawrence’s rhetoric is not abstract. The Sunrise Movement’s policy wish-list already includes sweeping gun-control measures packaged inside its climate agenda, and its donor network has bankrolled state-level efforts to restrict magazine capacity, mandate registration, and expand red-flag laws. When a candidate who helped build that infrastructure talks about “reconstructing” America, the 2A community hears a plan to re-engineer the electoral map, the courts, and ultimately the Bill of Rights itself. History shows that once the political class decides the Constitution is an obstacle rather than a safeguard, the first freedoms targeted are those that allow citizens to resist further encroachments.

The stakes for gun owners are straightforward: if Lawrence-style “reconstruction” gains a foothold in Congress, expect renewed pushes for national gun registries, funding for local buy-back programs, and litigation strategies designed to bankrupt smaller manufacturers. The 2A community’s response must be equally direct—highlight the candidate’s own words, connect them to the organizations funding his campaign, and remind voters that the right to arms is the ultimate check on any political project that seeks to remake the republic from the top down.
