On CNN Wednesday, Michigan Democratic Representative Debbie Dingell said Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed must tell voters he rejects Hasan Piker’s views and that she refuses to be pulled into the dispute.

Wolf Blitzer asked whether she accepted El-Sayed’s move to separate from Piker after comments about American Jews, plus El-Sayed’s claim that only he and his staff speak for the campaign and that critics were turning the race into a fight over a Twitch personality. Dingell said she rejects much of what Piker has said on Israel and on sexual assault, issues she has long opposed as an advocate against violence toward women, and that she does not understand his following.

She recalled criticism after she tied his appeal to younger viewers and his physique, argued the November contest should focus on restoring health coverage and food aid while choosing someone who will not simply back recent White House policies, and said she hopes Piker stays out of Michigan through Election Day as she works on coverage for her district and the country.
