Representative Tom Suozzi of New York, a Democrat frequently called a moderate by major news outlets, told listeners that his chief political aim is to give legal status to seven to ten million people already in the United States so they cannot be removed. The Republican National Committee later featured the remarks.

In an August 2025 essay he said immigration is personal because his grandparents arrived from Italy with little, his father used the GI Bill after World War II to become a mayor and state supreme court justice, and he himself now serves in Congress.

In January 2026 he argued that deportations under President Trump had cut the workforce by about 1.5 million people, producing extra overtime, higher pay, and upward pressure on prices. Retiring Republican Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska wrote in the Washington Post that he had personally pressed the Homeland Security secretary and used every available option yet still failed to halt the removal of a woman named Mariana.
