California Democrat Sydney Kamlager-Dove told CNN on Wednesday that a Trump administration plan to send households five thousand dollars amounted to an improper inducement. She said she hoped House Judiciary would question officials about the plan after Democrats win the House in November.

She said the president appears to grasp that fuel, food, housing, and medical bills are straining families even if he will not say so, and she faulted him for dismissing living-cost problems instead of offering an affordable path forward.

She added that money for such payments would exist if tax reductions for the wealthiest had not been paired with health-coverage cuts in recent legislation she blamed on him.
