Dallas County Democratic Party Chairman Kardal Coleman criticized Republicans at a Wednesday press conference as their two-day midterm convention opened in Dallas on September 9. He said Democrats would explain why the gathering mattered locally and accused the Trump administration of trying to create disorder in the recent primary, suggesting similar tactics might appear around the convention, though he gave no examples.

He said Dallas County, the state’s second-largest, has not backed Republicans for two decades and is more than three-quarters Democratic. Coleman described the Republican event as promoting hostility, division, scare tactics, and racial prejudice, while portraying local Democrats as focused on food aid, phone outreach, door-to-door visits, and donations, and he cited James Talarico on caring for neighbors.

Texas as a whole has backed Republican presidential candidates for the past 50 years, including Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
