CNN political commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin on Friday likened a taxpayer-funded Trump administration advertisement criticizing communism to broadcasts typical of China or Iran.

On The Situation Room, Wolf Blitzer aired the clip, which officials called a public service announcement, and asked about public funds paying for its television placement. Griffin said such government-sponsored promotion of federal authorities was unprecedented in the United States, unlike acceptable social media videos, and resembled output from China, Iran, and other repressive systems, with Blitzer citing North Korea.

She also addressed criticism of White House honors for China’s president, including an unrepaid airport greeting and a ceremonial reception amid human rights abuses, political detentions, and harsh treatment of imprisoned Uyghur Muslims, viewing the summit as an unclear projection of American values.
