CBS Host Gayle King Shocked Holdout Juror in Clancy Trial Was a Black Man

Listen to Article

CBS Mornings host Gayle King reacted with visible surprise Friday after a juror said the lone holdout in the Lindsay Clancy trial was a Black man on an otherwise white panel. King interviewed Paula Devlin about the nine women and three men, whose ages ran from the early twenties to about seventy, and learned most had children.

The holdout sought a first-degree murder finding in the deaths of Clancy’s three children, ages five, three, and eight months, which produced a mistrial after nearly forty hours of deliberation. Conservative commentators on social media criticized King’s pause to process the racial detail. Public opinion on the case remained split between those who wanted a murder conviction and those who cited postpartum psychosis along with prescribed psychiatric drugs.
