James Carville told Greta Van Susteren on her Newsmax program Tuesday that Donald Trump’s current White House outstrips every earlier presidency in combined graft. The longtime Democratic adviser agreed that pocketbook concerns still shape the contest yet insisted dishonesty now looms equally large.
He recalled that voters in 1992 could take George H.W. Bush’s honesty as given, then argued today’s scandals undercut the economic case and together weaken Republican prospects. Van Susteren replied that the GOP may counter by citing the legal cases that followed Trump’s decision to seek another term plus a weekend judicial search of a Democratic House member’s residence.
