Wendell Berry died at 92 in Kentucky. He was a poet, novelist, essayist and farmer who spent decades writing from his home in that state.

He supported tariffs, took the protectionist name, and opposed trade rules from NAFTA, GATT and the World Trade Organization. He favored immigration limits and criticized firms that used weak border policies. The New York Times and Associated Press obituaries instead described him as celebrating older rural America and preferring a less complex existence.
