FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, who also serves on an AI task force, appeared Wednesday on Fox Business Network program Varney and Co. He declined to address particular cyber incidents or hypothetical questions about whether American banks face similar threats.
Ferguson noted that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has concentrated on the matter for a long time and that he shares those concerns. In any investigation the FTC would seek to determine the hazards a product poses after it leaves a company and the steps firms have taken to protect purchasers.
Those purchasers include ordinary Americans as well as businesses that buy the models and tools, groups the agency intends to safeguard equally.
