Researchers writing in Health Affairs Scholar found widespread backing for firearm limits in alcohol-serving spots falls sharply once modest yearly costs appear. Without any fee, 56 to 74 percent of respondents weighted toward voting-eligible Americans supported the limits, exceeding 65 percent for large venues.
A 100 dollar annual taxpayer cost left majority support only for restrictions on felons, intoxicated persons or people with alcohol convictions, and solely in large venues. The work also covered theaters. Existing rules already vary by state, including Texas bars that earn most revenue from alcohol and New Mexico premises where alcohol is consumed.
