Minnesota Governor-elect Amy Klobuchar said a day after the November 3 election that legislation targeting firearms and magazines is a top priority that will pass. The Supreme Court on December 2 hears Viramontes v. Cook County and Grant v. Higgins on Second and Fourteenth Amendment protection for AR-15s and similar semiautomatic rifles. The measure follows Senate File 4067 passed 34-33 by the Minnesota Senate in May without a House floor vote, barring licensed dealers from selling semiautomatic military-style assault weapons and magazines holding more than 17 rounds and requiring existing owners to obtain state certification renewed every three years.
